Mary Ann (Baltimore) Bucklen – June 23, 1850 – December 18, 1915

MRS. WILLARD BUCKLEN SR.

Mary A. Baltimore was born at South Bend, Indiana, June 23, 1850, and died December 18, 1915 at the age of sixty five years, five months and twenty days. Then she was three years of age her parents moved to this community, then known as Beeler’s Grove, where her life has been spent.

In May of 1870 she was united in marriage to Willard Bucklen and to this union was born three children; Willard Jr.; Julia, wife of B. F. Ludwig, who departed this life last January; and Paul, all of this place; four grandchildren also survive her, Jerm and Kenneth Bucklen and Polly and John Ludwig.

Besides the sorrowing husband, children and grandchildren, she leaves to mourn her departure two sisters; Mrs. Louise Vorhees and Mrs. Sarah Vorhees, both of Marble Rock, the only surviving members of a family of nine, and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Bucklen established their home in pioneer days and knew all the difficulties that come to those who blaze the trail for civilization, and Mrs. Bucklen’s life is intimately woven into all the changes that have come to this community. Of her it may be said that she was a home loving wife and mother, interested in matters of public concern and especially active in religious and temperance affairs. During the last few years of her life she has borne cheerfully the burden of failing health, waiting to be summoned home by the all wise Father.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 20th, at the home of her son Willard by Rev. A. S.Farnham, pastor of the Christian Church of which church Mrs. Bucklen had been a member for twenty-five years, and the body laid to rest in the East Side Cemetery.
