Charles City - Edna Pitz, 78, of Charles City, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Edna Pitz will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, where the Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m.

The Hauser Funeral Home, in Charles City, 641-228-2323, is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Pitz, 78, of Charles City, died Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Edna Pitz will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Edna Mae Trask Pitz was born September 8, 1933, at Bassett, the daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Wisher) Trask. She attended rural school through eighth grade and graduated from Charles City High School. On October 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to LaVerne Pitz. They farmed east of Bassett until 1986 when they moved to Charles City.

Edna was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing softball in her younger years, gardening, ceramics and babysitting. Edna was a Foster Grandparent for several years. She always looked forward to spending time with her family and sharing her life with them.

Living family members include eight children: Debra (Larry) Hackman of Lawler, Linda Mead, Vicki (Tim) Leidal and Mary (Pat Downs) DeGeus all of Charles City, Nancy (Frank) Miller of Waterloo, Mark (Bonnie) Pitz of North Liberty, Shelly (Brian "Butch") Tierney of New Hampton and Michael Pitz of Nashua; 25 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis (Darrell) Bennett of Stewartville, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 45 years, LaVerne Pitz on June 7, 1999; two grandchildren, Cory Miller in infancy and Justin Tierney; a brother, Richard Trask; and a son-in-law, Ray DeGeus in 2004.
