Donald J. Abbott, 66, of Rockford, Iowa, died on Friday, August 14, 1992 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford, with Rev. J. Albrecht officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, with graveside military honors by Tack-Barnett American Legion Post 268 of Greene. Rev. W. Granger of Clarion conducted the committal. Masonic services were held at Schumburg Funeral Home, Rockford.

Donald J. Abbott was a graduate of Mason City High School. Because of World War II, he joined the U.S. Navy the day after graduation from high school, and served for two years. Following his discharge form the Navy, he attended the Sioux City Barber College, after which he spent 42 years in the business at Rockford. In addition to his barbering, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Services for 18 years. He retired in December of 1988.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and the National Letter Carriers Association. He was a former member of the Rockford Library Board.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Abbott of Rockford; one son, Donald L. Abbott and his wife, Erin of Clive; one daughter, Donnette Long and her husband Dennis of Montezuma; three grandchildren: Spencer and Abby Long and Emily Abbott; his mother, Aurilla Abbott of Des Moines; three sisters: Donna Cahalan of Mason City, Anita Good of Marshalltown, and Lennice Kuskulis of Rowland Heights, California; and one brother, Norman Abbott of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his father, D.W. Abbott.
