Lena C. (Smith) Surface – March 12, 1876 – June 7, 1941

MRS. SURFACE FUNERAL HELD
NORA SPRINGS WOMAN SUCCUMBS WHILE ON VISIT IN MINNEAPOLIS

Nora Springs – Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lutheran Church for Mrs. Lena C. Surface, who died Saturday while visiting relatives in Minneapolis.

The Rev. F. F. Dornader officiated, and burial was at Park Cemetery. Mrs. Henry Buckman and Mrs. Roy Kraupa sang, accompanied by Mrs. Carl Crowell at the organ.

Mrs. Surface is survived by four children; Mrs. George Mogk of Nora Springs; Mrs. Louis Freeman of Minneapolis; Everett of Waterloo; and Maurice of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; one sister; Mrs. Martha Moulton of Minonk, Illinois; four brothers; Jacob, Henry and Harvey of Minonk, and Herman of Chicago, Illinois.
She was born March 12, 1876, at Minonk, Illinois. On May 18, 1898, she was married to Albert Surface at San Jose, Illinois. They made their home at Mason City, Illinois where they lived for 12 years. In 1910 they moved to Nora Springs.
Mr. Surface died in 1926 and Mrs. Surface made her home in Waterloo with her sons. After that she returned to Nora Springs to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. George Mogk.

Those who attended the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Surface and family of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Freeman and family and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Surface of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. Martha Moulton; Henry Smith; Harry D. Smith; and Bill Brand of Minonk, Illinois; Mrs. And Mrs. Herman F. Smith of Chicago; Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wahl of San Jose, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. John Repp of Denver, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Baker and family of St. Paul, Minnesota; Charles Freeman, don and George of Ogilvie, Minnesota; Mrs. Myrta Wilde and Mrs. E. C. Phippen of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Squier of Greene; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Schnur and family of Waterloo; Miss Madge Waterhouse of Rudd.
Mrs. Bessie Kreger and Mrs. Alton Wilson were in charge of the flowers.
