Alma O. Spotts, 96, of Nora Springs, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 16, 1993, at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Friday at United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, with the Rev. R. Pippert officiating. Burial was in Park Cemetery.
Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, was in charge of arrangements.
Alma Spotts was born on March 16, 1897, in Nora Springs, daughter of Emil and Caroline (Erbe) Gratias. She was born on a farm northeast of Nora Springs, and later her parents moved to a farm northwest of Nora Springs, where she attended grade school at Portland No. 2. Her family then moved to Mason City, where Alma attended and graduated from Mason City High School in 1917. Her parents and her brother, Clarence, moved to California in 1918.
She married Paul C. Spotts on April 30, 1918, in Mason City. She was active in community affairs in the Nora Springs area. She was also president of the PTA at Portland School No. 4, a member of United Methodist Church, a special member of the Mary Circle, and a member of the Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. She worked with her husband, Paul, with DeKalb Corn sales an distribution. They retired in 1963 and moved to Nora Springs, where she resided until her admittance to Nora Springs Care Center. She died on her 96th birthday.
She is survived by one daughter, Alta S. Masterson, Galt, California; four grandchildren: Trudy Carter of Sunnyvale, California, Paul A. Masterson of Sacramento, California, Lori Jost of Rock Falls and Marcus Spotts of Nora Springs; seven great-grandchildren: Maureen Welch of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Colleen, Kelly, and Michael Carter, all of Sunnyvale, Calif., Malinda and Harold Masterson, both of Sacramento, Calif., and Brittaney Jost, Rock Falls; and one brother, Clarence Gratias, Laguna Beach, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, in 1977; her parents, Emil in 1936 and Caroline in 1957; her son, Lester, in 1991; two brothers, Roy in 1980 an Earl in 1955; one sister, Ruby Harris, in 1976; and one son-in-law, Harold Masterson, in 1976.
