LOCATION: Cedar Falls, IowaEllis was born on February 21, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Frank Ashton and Mary Emma (Ellis) Webb. He died on Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University in Indiana, his Master of Divinity from Garret Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, and his Honorary Doctorate from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
On September 3, 1942, he was united in marriage to Esther Prosser in Decatur, Michigan.
He served student churches in Litchfield and Vandercok Lake, Michigan, and in 1949, became a full member of the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church where he served the following churches: West St. Charles- Flood Creek, Nora Springs, Anamosa, Waverly, Charles City, Iowa Falls and Owasa, in Iowa. He also served as the District Superintendent on Spencer and Mason City districts. Ellis served on the Conference Pensions Corporations, Conference Committee on Camps, Conference Board of Education, Conference Board of Missions, and Conference Board of Ordained Ministry as well as a variety of other districts offices.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Esther of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Elaine (Mick) Rosenau of Cedar Falls; two sons, Rev. Leland (Catherine) Webb of Grundy Center and Rev. Philip (Ellen) Webb of Boone, Iowa; two sisters, Naomi (Alan) Orerdorff of Howell, Michigan, and Esther (Robert) Mitchell of Jackson, Michigan; one brother, Dr. Benjamin (Paula) Webb of AuGres, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Kristin (Alan) Rosenau Halvorson of Madison, Wisconsin, Tim (Alissa) Rosenau of Nashville, Tennessee, Jason (Lisa Wertz) Webb of Pacific Grove, Calif., Adam (Suzie) Webb Tiffin, Iowa, Nicholas, Mackenzie, Tamsin Webb of Boone, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Joshua Halvorson of Madison, Wisconsin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Frank A. Webb Jr.; three sisters, Jean, Eunice, and Ruth.
