Memorial services for Evelyn Lucille Merriss were held on January 23, 1993, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Marble Rock, Iowa, with Rev. J. Albrecht officiating. Interment was in Westside Cemetery, in Marble Rock, with Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Lucille Kock was born on January 5, 1930 neawr Vilmar, Coldwater Township, Butler County, Iowa, a daughter of Ernest Henry and Ruth Ellen (Berk) Kock. She died on Tuesday, January 19, 1993 at her home in Marble Rock.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence Kenneth Merriss on March 29, 1947 in Austin, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they made their home in Charles City, later moving to Phoenix, Arizona, where they remained until returning to Marble Rock in 1958.

Mrs. Merriss was employed by the Harris Nursing Home in Marble Rock for several years, and was a school bus driver for the RRMR school district for 27 years, retiring in 1990.

She was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marble Rock, and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on July 5, 1987.

Living family members include two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Eliane) Marzen of Marble Rock and Denise Merriss of Iowa City; two sons, Lindle Merris of Marshalltown and Gary Merriss of Marble Rock. She had nine grandchildren: Wade Marzen, Carrie Kornegor, Niles Lunde, Michelle, Laura, Lawrence, Kenneth and Benjamin Lee Merriss, Jeremiah Johnson and kreg Scheffert. There are also two great-grandchildren, Zachary Allen Marzen and Gage Hinders.

Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Sharon Lau of Elma; five brothers: Alvin Kock of Marble Rock, Alfred Kock of Greene, Darell Kock of Charles City, Darwin Kock of Midwest City, Oklahoma; and one half-brother, Dennis Casper of Missouri.
