Funeral services were held on Monday, August 2, 1993, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, Iowa, for Virginia R. Leer, 76, of Rudd, who died Wednesday, July 28, 1993, at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City. Rev. C. Bruland officiated and burial was in the Rockwell Cemetery. Schumburg Fuineral Home, Rockford, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Virginia R. Leer memorial fund.

Virginia was born on December 14, 1916 in Girard, Illinois, the daughter of Edward H. and Carrie M. (Clark) Smith. She was raised and attended school in Rockwell.

She was united in marriage to Wilfred Leer on December 21, 1932 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. The couple farmed in the Dougherty and Rockwell areas.

She was employed as a garment inspector for the H.D. Lee Co. in Lebannon, Missouri, after they moved to Missouri. They continued to farm in Missouri, northern Missouri and Wisconsin.

Following her husband's death in 1988 she moved to the Rudd area. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, enjoyed her family, gardening, and was an excellent cook.

Virginia Leer is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Cliff (Elaine) Sage of Mason City; Mrs. Darlene Miller, Greenwood, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Frank (Diane) Sullivan, Cedar Falls, Iowa; five sons: Allan Leer and his wife Lola of Sturgess, N.D.; Arnold Leer and wife Mary, Falcon, Missouri; Dwight Leer and wife Shirley, of Reeds Town, Wisconsin; Michael Leer and wife, Vickie, Rockford; and Kevin Leer and wife Terry, Norwalk, Wisconsin.

Also surviving are: one sister, Mrs. Cato (Harriet) Lundt, Dougherty; two brothers, Wallace Smith, Trenton, Missouri; and Norman Smith and wife Della, Unionville, Missouri; and 28 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Mary Elaine Sage; and three sisters: Alice Powell, Lola Davis and Wilma Sletten.
