Services for J. Alfred Kitch, 76, of Rockford, Iowa, were held on Monday, May 3, 1993, at 1:30 at Zion Lutheran Church, with burial in the Riverside Cemetery at Rockford. Pastor John Albrecht officiated.
Mr. Kitch was born on December 4, 1916 in Newport, Washington, to John B. and Harriet F. (Kuppinger) Kitch. Shortly after his birth the Kitches moved to the Mason City, Iowa, area, where Al was to attend and graduate from the schools there.
In 1940 he was united in marriage to Emma S. Ficken, at which time the couple moved to the Rockford area. Here they remained, in and around the area, until his death on Thursday, April 29, 1993.
For the last 23 years of his working life, Mr. Kitch was employed by the Rockford Municipal Light Plant. While in Rockford, he was active in the Masonic Lodge, the Boy Scouts, and the Lutheran Brotherhood. He had been a member of the Rockford Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years, serving as its chief for 25 years.
Al Kitch is survived by his wife, Emma, of Rockford; one daughter, Marilyn and her husband, Jim E. Marrs, of Collins, Iowa; one son, John and his wife, Jackie of Carroll, Iowa. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Penny and her husband, Benton DeMoss, Debbie Marrs, and A.J. Marrs, all of Des Moines; Mark Marrs and his wife, Angela, and Meladee Marrs of Ottumwa, Iowa; and Dayle and Douglas Kitch of Carroll, Iowa. There are also four great-grandchildren: Aaron and Amanda DeMoss of Des Moines, and David and Michael Marrs of Ottumwa, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A prayer service and a Masonic service were held at the Schumburg Funeral Home on Sunday evening before the church service on Monday.
