Wilber “Pete” Esser -- 1908-June 27, 1951
FUNERAL FOR RIVER VICTIM HELD TUESDAY
Charles City – Graveside services were held at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Tuesday afternoon for Wilbur “Pete” Esser, 43 year old Marble Rock bachelor farmer, who drowned in the Shell rock River June 27.
The bod was recovered Tuesday at about 10:30 a.m. by two Greene men, Fred Knapp and Blair Moffat, who found it wedged in brush when the river went down. The spot whee the body was found is about a mile below Gates bridge and 3 ½ miles south Of Marble Rock by the road.
Marble Rock Fire Chief Leo Wood reported that Knapp and Moffat spotted the body as they were driving on the west side of the river.
Esser was born and reared on the farm 7 miles west of Marble rock where he had live. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Esser..
A sister, Mrs. Clyde Thieman, lives about 4 ½ miles west of Marble Rock.Mason City Globe Gazette, Wednesday July 4, 1951
