Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, November 13, 1993, for Charles R. Briggs, 100, who died at the Nora Springs Care Center on Wednesday, November 10, 1993. Pastor Shirley Meendering officiated.

Shumburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements; and burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Mr. Briggs demise came a few weeks after his 100th birthday, which was observed at the Care Center. His recent fall and resultant broken contributed to his death.

Charles R. Briggs was born on August 14, 1893, to Charles A. and Annie E. (Uhley) Briggs of Rockford. He was married to Eleanor I. Morrow on January 25, 1917. To this union were born two sons and a daughter.

Mr. Briggs was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church. He had spent nearly all his 100 years in and around the Rockford area.

He is survived by his two sons, Merle Briggs of Sarasota, Florida, and Charles W. Briggs of Venice, Florida. There are five grandchildren: Merilynne Anderson of Rockford, Steve Briggs, Sarasota, Florida, Floy Daniel Briggs, Mesa, Arizona, Kirk Briggs, Venice, Florida, and Bryan Briggs, Nokomis, Florida. Five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Constance Janssen of Rush City, Minnesota, also survive.

Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Irene; one granddaughter, Janice Briggs; and one great-grandson, Greg Anderson.
