BORN IN OHIO IN 1848 AND CAME TO IOWA IN 1870 IN COVERED WAGON

Nora Springs Aug. 12 –Funeral services for Mrs. Lovina Shimer were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Sanford, three miles southeast of Nora Springs, conducted by the Rev. H. A. Crumb, pastor of the Methodist church here. The Rev. P. W. Pfalzgraff, pastor of Grace Evangelical church of Mason City and Mrs. Pfaltzgraff sang.

Lovina Lantz was born October 11, 1848, at Fredricktown, Ohio. She was married to Jacob Shimer September 7, 1870, and came to Iowa in a covered wagon seven years later and resided near Nora Springs for more than 50 years.

Since the death of her husband 10 years ago Mrs. Shimer had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Sanford. Two weeks ago she was stricken with paralysis at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Crowell, near Rockwell and never fully regained consciousness again, the end coming at 6 o’clock Sunday evening.

She is survived by eight children; Mrs. Nettie Bumgardner and Mrs. Maude Baker of Mason City; Mrs. Bessie Crowell, Rockford; Fred L. Shimer, Mason City; Mrs. Evelyn Sanford, Nora Springs; John H. Shimer of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Mrs. Gertrude Morphew and Eugene Lee Shimer of Windom, Minnesota, all of whom were present at the funeral.

She leaves one brother; G. W. Lantz of Mason City, fourteen grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren also several nieces and nephews. She had been a consistent member of the Methodist Church since the age of 14 years.
Burial was in the Rudd Cemetery beside her husband.
