CHARLES CITY, IOWA - John McCleary, 78, of Charles City died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church an hour prior to the service.

John McCleary, 78, of Charles City, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

John Paul McCleary was born October 19, 1933, at Winterset, the son of Paul and Cecilia (Langbehn) McCleary. He graduated from Dawson High School in 1951 and attended Iowa State University. John served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Donna Weddle at Dawson EUB Church. For a number of years John worked as a Soil Conservationist and then as an engineer salesperson until his retirement. John was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served on various boards. He was president of the Charles City Library Board during the renovation. His hobbies included woodworking, bird watching and feeding, drawing, keeping a journal and traveling all over the United States with favorite locations being the Mississippi River and Yellow River Forest.

Living family members include his wife, Donna McCleary of Charles City; four children, Jon (Debbie) of Charles City, Deborah (Brant) Foutch of Minneapolis, Minn., Sheryl (Gary) Rausch of Decorah and Robert (Martha "Marty") McCleary of Dublin, Ireland; six, grandchildren, Shaun Boyd, Jay (Jennifer) McCleary, Paul McCleary, Heather McCleary, Kelly (Daniel) Gaona and Max Foutch; nine great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Nakotah, Brooklyn, Peyton, Paige, Abigail, Bella, Payton and Mateo; a brother, Robert (Peggy) McCleary of Perry; and a sister, Virginia (Keith) Dills of San Luis Obispo, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
