Kenneth "Ken" Peterson, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Memorial services for Ken Peterson will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service.

Kenneth Edward Peterson was born June 3, 1926, in Chickasaw County, the son of Chris and Una (Perry) Peterson. He graduated from Charles City High School and attended Iowa State University. In 1947 he married Carol Nikolas and they later divorced. Ken served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He farmed and also worked at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company moving in 1961 to St. Paul, Minn. where he was employed at Whirlpool. Ken was a member of the American Legion. His interests included fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards and farming.

Living family members include four children, Doug (Mary) Peterson of Little Canada, Minn., Jan Parsons of North Branch, Minn., Joyce (Jeff) Dupre of Hugo, Minn. and Sid (Sheila) Peterson of Lino Lakes, Minn.; nine grandchildren; two great granddaughters; a daughter-in-law, Deb Peterson of Roseville, Minn.; and special friend, Irene Mehmen and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marcus Peterson; two sisters; and four brothers.
