NORA SPRINGS PIONEER BURIED
MRS. GOULD HAD BEEN RESIDENT OF NORTH IOWA 74 YEARS

Nora Springs, Nov. 11 – Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home in Nora springs for Mrs. Alice Knapp Gould, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. H. A. Crumb.

Alice Maria Knapp, daughter of Z. M. and Sarah Knapp, was born in June 1851, in Winnebago County, Illinois. The family came to Rockford when she was four years old and later to Nora Springs.

She was united in marriage to the Rev. Joseph W. Gould at Rockford May 20, 1869. To this union four children were born, Charlton, Imogene, Beulah and Mabel.

She was her husbands’ helper in his pastorate in the churches at Rockford, Shell rock, Northwood, Union Ridge, Monona and Frankville. In 1878 the Rev. Mr. Gould retired from the active ministry and their permanent home was made in Nora Springs, where he had organized the first class of the Methodist Church in 1869, and where he died seven years ago.

For the past 15 years Mrs. Gould had been an invalid, cared for by her daughters, Beulah and Mabel. Sunday morning, November 4th, she suffered a paralytic stroke and died Thursday evening, November 7th without awakening from her sleep.

She is survived by her four children, Charlton of Omak, Washington; Mrs. Imogene Bitterman; Beulah and Mabel of Nora Springs; one brother, Perry O. Knapp, of Emporia, Kansas; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial was made at Park Cemetery.
