Robert Martin Stoltenberg, son of Eddie and Ruby Tagesen Stoltenberg was born January 23, 1935, in rural Rockwell, Iowa. Bob attended and graduated from Rock Falls High School and enlisted in the Army in October of 1953. Following his honorable discharge in 1956, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Shirley Miller, on December 22, 1956, at the Nora Springs Christian Church. To this union, two beautiful children were born, LuAnn and Susie.

Bob worked at Armour in Mason City for two years before attending and receiving an electronic degree at DeVry Tech Institution in Chicago, Ill., graduating in 1960. He then started his work at West Union Appliance repairing televisions and radios. He also worked for Sears for a short time before starting his career as a salesman for Gifford Brown in Des Moines, selling electronics all over Iowa. As he was getting ready to retire from his career of more than 30 years, he received his realtor's license and sold real estate for a short time before retiring in 1994. Following his retirement, Bob worked part time for 14 years at the Nora Springs Care Center, which he loved doing. Bob thought of the employees and residents as his second family.

Bob was a gentleman, quiet, intelligent and went unnoticed taking care of those that needed it. His passion was his family that drove him to work so hard throughout his life. Bob spent his free time gardening, landscaping, camping, and traveling, most importantly, being able to spend time with his family and friends. He was a very proud American and fought for what he believed in. He took a special part in establishing the Veterans Memorial site in Nora Springs.

Bob was an active member of the Nora Springs Christian Church where he served as an elder, chairman of the board, Trustee, Sunday school teacher, worked with the sound system as well as performing multiple maintenance duties as needed. He also was a member of the Nora Springs American Legion Post 449.
