MRS. NELLIE E BAKER FORMER NORA SPRINGS RESIDENT, IS BURIED

Nora Springs, Aug. 1 – Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie E. Baker, 68 were held at Martin-Sheckler Funeral Home Sunday afternoon with the Rev. J. E. DeLong, pastor of the Methodist church in charge. Burial was in Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Baker was born in Nora Springs August 4, 1865, and died at her home in Kansas City July 27th. Mrs. Baker was assistant postmistress at Nora Springs under George Moore for several years and later operated a dressmaking and millinery business here. She was married to Jacob Baker, June 4, 1885.

Surviving are her son, Dr. C. H. Baker, and three grandsons of Kansas City; one brother; F. H. Graves of Mason City; and one sister; Mrs. Hattie Hodge of Rockford.

Nellie Graves was born August 4, 1865 in Iowa, the daughter of Harrison Graves and Lucinda (Ready Graves.

She married Jacob H. Baker. He died October 21, 1891

Their son Dr. Cecil Henry Baker mentioned as C. H. in the obit was born July 4, 1890 in Nora Springs, Floyd Co.,Iowa . He was a dentist in Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri in the WWI Draft registration records.

Her father died January 28, 1874 and her mother remarried to James Chambers.

Her sister mentioned in the above obit was Harriet “Hattie” (Graves) Hodge 1859-1935. She’s buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.
