Charles City, Iowa - Darwin Walker, 81, of Charles City, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Darwin Walker will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Bethany Alliance Church. Pastor Kent Sovine will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be directed to the family for Iowa's Bravest and Altoona Cub Scout Pack 63.

Darwin Paul Walker was born April 21, 1931, at Waterloo, the son of John and Alta (Shipp) Walker. He received his education from East High School in Waterloo. Darwin proudly served in the United States Army. While stationed in Germany he met his future bride Marianne Cavet. On June 15, 1953, they were united in marriage at Berlin, Germany. Darwin worked at Warren Transport for several years and in 1991 retired from John Deere. In 2009 Darwin and Marianne moved to Charles City. He was a member of the UAW, American Legion and was active for many years in the scouting program. His interests included camping, golfing, fishing, woodworking and tinkering in his garage. Darwin always took special interest in his family, especially his grandchildren and their activities.

Living family members include his wife, Marianne Walker of Charles City; three children, Randall (Tracy) Walker of Aiken, South Carolina, Kim (Mike) Wendel of Charles City and John (Nadine) Walker of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, Joanne (Justin) Watt, Melissa (David) Battiste, Kelli (Samuel) Walker, Chad (Danielle) Wendel, Cory (Lucy) Wendel, Alex Wendel, Cady Wendel, Kylie Walker, Kaitlyn Walker, Nicholas Walker, Kara Walker and Michele (Bryant) Wetzel; two great grandchildren, Cole Wetzel and Cameron Wetzel; a brother, Roger (Marilyn) Walker of Dewey, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Carol Walker of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dwight Walker.

Memorials may be directed to the family for Iowa's Bravest and Altoona Cub Scout Pack 63.
