Charlotte Owen

A Funeral Mass for Charlotte Owen, 89, of Marble Rock will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 28, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Roseville with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford Street, Marble Rock with a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Thursday.

Charlotte was born on January 13, 1923, in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, a daughter of Charles Edward and Louise Ann (Seidler) Stowell and died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs. She received her education in public school graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Waterloo.

She was united in marriage to Richard J. Stewart in 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa. She and Richard were blessed with four sons: Gary Prior, Joe Stewart, Mike Stewart, John Stewart; and one daughter Joann Westemeir.

Charlotte was married in 1960 to Hadwin Owen in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple made their home in Waterloo until 1973 when they moved to Marble Rock where they owned and operated The Rock Tavern and Lounge along with the C & H Superette.

Those of us who were privileged to know Charlotte admired her for her Irish humor, her love for fishing, music and family. She was, as we all know, unique in God’s creation. For many years, after the passing of Hadwin, she had the love and affection of her companion Bill Wentworth of Marble Rock. They could always be seen together going on fishing trips, headed out to movies, and partaking in numerous other activities together.

Living family members include three sons: Gary (Janet) Prior, Charles City, Iowa, Mike (Cindy) Stewart, Cedar Falls, Iowa, John (Betty) Stewart, Marble Rock, Iowa; one daughter: Joann Westemeir, Wildwood, Florida; one step-son: James Owen, Waterloo, Iowa; one sister: Mary (Nate) Heise, Shell Rock, Iowa, and Companion Bill Wentworth, Marble Rock, Iowa. Charlotte also had many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Richard, second husband Hadwin, one son, Joseph Stewart, two step-sons, Don and Michael Owen; one grandson, David Stewart, and her parents Charles and Louise.
