William "Bill" Harrold

Charles City, Iowa - William "Bill" Harrold, a longtime Charles City businessman, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at his home. Per Bill's request no service will be held. A celebration of life for the family is being planned.

William H. Harrold was born in Olney, Illinois, the son of William H. and Opal Crosby Harrold. The family later moved to Iowa and settled near Greene. After graduating from Greene High School, Bill continued his education at Ann Arbor, Michigan, and became a supervisor for Ford Motor Company.

Upon his return to Iowa Bill became owner of B&H Transport Company with offices in Mason City, Greene and Pocahontas. Before his retirement he ventured into real estate and maintained an office at 101 North Main Street in Charles City.

He was a past member of the Lions Club, Charles City Country Club and Congregational Church where he earlier served as a deacon. He also attended Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church with his family.

Annual fishing trips with his children, golfing with his friends, card games with the Field family and spending time with his grandchildren and special nephew Ethan brought great joy to his life.

Bill will be remembered for his kindness, honesty, respect for others, devotion and caring ways to his family, and his infectious smile.

Living family members include his wife, Dianne Harrold; his children, Robert (Tonya) Harrold, Barbara (John) Jansee, Bill (Barb) Harrold Jr., Becky (Chet) Scott, Bruce Harrold and Mark (Karen) Hagen; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a brother, George "Buddy" Harrold; and four sisters-in-law, Delores Abel, Donna (Larry) Stewart, Dixie (Jack) Dunagan and Debbie (Dar) Gitch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eileen DePuew; a brother, Paul Harrold; a daughter-in-law, Michele Harrold; and a sister-in-law, Dolly Field Lyman.

In lieu of flowers or memorials it is the family's desire that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
