NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Opal M. Clifford, 78, of Nora Springs, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

According to Opal's wishes, there will be no services held. Her body was cremated.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.

Opal M. Clifford was born in Ulster Township on October 4, 1919, to Walter and Amy (Warren) Keifer.

On May 8, 1940, she married Donald "Sam" Clifford in Mason City.

Opal was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge and the Rebekah Lodge #226, where she held the position of Noble Grand, all of Charles City.

Opal and Sam had the Clifford Clothing Shoe and Repair Store for 25 years in Nora Springs.

Opal enjoyed sewing, outdoors, traveling and dancing at the Moose. A special enjoyment of Opal's was to spend time with her grandson, Scott, sharing together wonderful fishing trips to Canada and Washington Island. Opal also enjoyed her time with her two great-grand-daughters.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Wendt, Nora Springs; one grandson, Scott Wendt and his wife, Brenda, Nora Springs; two great-grand-daughters; four great-step-grandchildren; two sisters, Audry, of California, and Buelah, of Iowa; one brother, Dale, of Iowa; and a very special friend, Robert R. Crooks and his children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren, they all meant so much to her.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, in 1985; and one brother.

Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs, is in charge of arrangements.
