Gertrude E. Sanford, 88, of 318 Second St. N.E., Nora Springs, Iowa, died on Monday, September 26, 1994, at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, with the Rev. R. Pippert of Nora Springs United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd, Iowa.
Gertrude E. Sanford was born on July 15, 1906, in rural Rudd, the daughter of William and Ida (Skelton) Tibbits. She married Darrell Sanford on November 3, 1928, in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Gertrude grew up in the Nora Springs and Rudd area and graduated from Rudd High School. She obtained her teaching certificate and taught in rural schools in Mitchell County.
For many years, she was self employed and hung wallpaper and painted. She then cooked for the Nora Springs school system until retiring in 1968.
She enjoyed sewing and quilting and was active in the women's society at church. She was a member of the Nora Springs United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell Sanford of Nora Springs; one daughter, Patricia Muskovich of Nora Springs; four grandchildren: Mary Schissel of Dougherty, Michelle Stiles of Modjeska, Calif., Marcia Brightman of Petaluma, Calif., and James Muskovich** of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; five great-grandchildren: Tammy Cajigas of Modjeska, Calif.; Shari Kisner of Elmer, Missouri; Michael and Mathew Schissel, both of Dougherty, and Delaney Brightman of Petaluma, Calif.; two great-great-granddaughters, Robin and Natalie; one sister, Opal Squier of Gaylord, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers.
