GREENE, IOWA - James Edward Osier, 70, passed away at his home in Greene, Iowa, on February 18, 2012, after a long battle with throat cancer.

He was born on February 24, 1941, in Floyd County, the sixth of thirteen children of Donald "Dutch" and Geraldine Betts Osier. Jim attended country schools and Sacred Heart Academy in Greene. His occupations included road construction with Allied Construction of Charles City, and he joined the Plastering Union in California in 1968.

The family moved to Colorado in 1972, where Jim continued to do plastering work. In 198,6 they moved back to the Los Angeles area where he worked until a back injury in 1996. They moved to Greene in 2001.

Jim married Diane Lucille Barth on June 19, 1959, in Forest City, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Julie, Randy and Jody. In September 1998 they adopted two granddaughters, Tarah and Larissa Osier.

Jim attended St. Peter Lutheran Church. He loved working in his garden, riding his John Deere lawn mower, working in his shop, and eating vanilla ice cream and anything sweet. He enjoyed spending time with his family and babysitting his loving dog he called "Grandson Petey."

Jim is survived by his wife, Diane, of 52 years; three children: Julie (Osier) Tucker of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif; Randy (Cheryl) Osier of Greene; and Jody (Leah) Osier of Glendora, Calif; two adopted grandchildren Tarah and Larissa Osier, both of Cedar Falls; grandchildren: Randy Osier, Jr. of Brighton, Colo; Amanda (Joey) Nguyen of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif; Brittany Rice, Arianna and Chad Osier of Glendora, Calif; his mother Geri (Betts) Osier of Greene; brothers: David (Linda) Osier of Alpine, Calif; John (Judy) Osier of Greene; Dan (Jan) Osier of Charles City; and sisters: Donna (Gary) Gerhard of Marble Rock; Marge (Jerry) Geitzenauer of Greene; Sharon Krominga of Mason City; Barbara (Steve) Schroeder of Greene; Debra (Tom) Heidenwirth of Greene; his brother-in-law Dean Groskers of Charles City; sister-in-law Pat Osier of Mason City; and in-laws Ron (Charlene) Barth of Marshalltown; John (Carol) Barth of Greene; Verlene (Floyd) Senne of Allison; and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all.

Jim was preceded in death by his father; brothers: Ron; Gene "Chick; and Lyle; and sister Phyllis (Osier) Groshens; his in-laws Verle K. and Thelma L. Barth; a nephew Greg Senne; a niece Debra (Barth) Maddox; and a great-niece, Emma Lukes.

There will be a private family service held later this summer.
