Donald K. DePrenger
Donald K. DePrenger, 70, of Mason City, died Thursday, May 26, 1994 at home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Donald Simmonds officiating. Burial was in Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs, with full military rites by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
Memorials may be given to the Donald K. DePrenger Memorial Fund.
Donald K. DePrenger was born April 2, 1924, at Leighton, the son of Cornelius “Con” and Emma Lillian (Fritz) DePrenger. He graduated from Pella High School, Central College, and received his master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. He studied at Iowa State University working towards his doctorate. In 1942, he entered the service, serving in the U.S. Army. During his tour in the Army, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He married Donna Dady-Brunkow on Aug. 23, 1945, at Colorado Springs, Colo. He taught school at Vinton for 10 years before moving to Mason City in 1965. For 25 years he taught school at North Iowa Area Community College.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, V.F.W., D.A.V., Mason City High Twelve Harding Lodge No. 649 A.F. A.M., and El Kahir Shrine.
Survivors include his wife, Donna L. DePrenger of Mason City; one son, Dan DePrenger, New York, N.Y.; one daughter, Diane “Annie” and husband, Michael J. Smith, Nora Springs; six grandchildren, Morgan, Dylan and Mackenzie DePrenger, Kelly, Brandy and Stacy Smith; and one sister, Mary Lou White, Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
