Eugene J.E. Cheney, 74, of Nora Springs, Iowa, died Thursday, August 11, 1994 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
Funeral services were held Monday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Glen Bandel and the Rev. Allan Sheldon of Mason City Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in Park Cemetery.
Eugene Cheney was born January 20, 1920, in Rudd, the son of E.W. and Leo (Steffler) Cheney. He married Lois Estal on April 10, 1945 in Nora Springs.
Eugene grew up and graduated from Rudd High School. In 1942, he moved to Nora Springs where he worked at the movie theater. He was a self-employed electrician and a professional photographer for many years.
His hobbies included ham radio, and he enjoyed the Nora Springs Saddle Club. He served as press photographer for the Nora Springs Advertiser and also was school photographer and won many trophies and awards for his photos. He enjoyed his pets and animals.
Eugene was a member of Nora Springs Christian Church and later transferred to the Mason City Church of Christ. He was also a member of the North Iowa Ham Radio Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Cheney of Nora Springs; many nieces and nephews; a special couple, Truman and Ruth Gast, Nora Springs; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers in infancy.
