Doris A. Borchard, 79, of Friendship Acre, Marble Rock, Iowa, died on Monday, May 16, 1994, at her home, of cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. J. Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock is in charge of arrangements. Visitation was to be on Wednesday, with a public scripture services at 7:30 p.m., and will continue until an hour before the service on Thursday.
Doris Alma Fisher was born on November 15, 1914, in Grafton, a daughter of Richard and Ida Alvina (Kruger) Fisher. She received her education in the public schools at Grafton and Rockford. She was later employed by Deckers Processing and then Damon's Department Store, both in Mason City.
On August 15, 1947 she was united in marriage to William Richard Borchard at Bemidji, Minnesota. They made their home in the rural Marble Rock and Greene areas where she was engaged as an accomplished ceramic artist and teacher, operating her own shop for many years. In 1979 they moved to Clear Lake where they remained until Bill's retirement in 1981, and then they moved back to Marble Rock.
Doris's many talents included painting scenery and portraits, seamstress and organist. She will be remembered by her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and the best cook in town.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lutheran Ladies Aid and Bible Study, American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens and Area Betterment Council, all in Marble Rock. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Clear Lake.
Living members include her husband, William R. Borchard, Sr. of Marble Rock; two daughters, Donna L. and her husband John Eberhardt of Mason City and Phyllis A. Sweet of Boynton Beach, Florida; two sons, William R. Borchard, Jr. and wife Donna of Marble Rock, and Roger J. Borchard and wife, Dove of Oxford, Alabama; 12 gradnchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo and LaVern Warner, both of Mason City.
She leaves to join her parents, two sisters, five brothers and one granddaughter.
