ROCKFORD — Steven K. “Tabes” Parcher, 56, of 208 Seventh St. N.E. in Rockford, died suddenly Monday morning (Oct. 10, 2005) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Steven Kent Parcher was born on Nov. 10, 1948, to Donald V. and Beth E. (Emery) Parcher, the fifth of eight children. Steven entered the world a bit unexpectedly in a car between Rockford and Charles City as his parents were traveling to the hospital for his arrival. Don and Beth’s new car had broken down enroute to the hospital, prompting them to catch a ride with a young man kind enough to stop and help.

Steven was a sweet little boy, baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. He attended the Rudd, Rockford and Marble Rock community schools and during his youth, looked forward to going to movies on Sunday nights and spending time with his family and friends.

“Tabes,” as he was lovingly known by his relatives and friends, began his semi-driving career following high school, hauling grain for a farmer. He continued to drive throughout his adult years, most currently for Warren Transportation in Waterloo. Tabes would transport machinery mostly to the southern states and lived in Mexico, just across the border from Laredo, Texas. He thoroughly enjoyed driving the semi and was saddened when his health no longer permitted him to work.

Some of Tabes’ leisure activities and interests included listening to country music, fishing, especially in Arkansas, setting off fireworks at Fourth of July family gatherings and assisting with the fireworks displays for a few years in Clear Lake.

Tabes’ family recalls that he had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to play many a practical joke. He particularly loved eating his mother’s home-cooked meals, especially her fried chicken and strawberry shortcake.

Steven will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, Donald Parcher of Rockford and Beth Parcher of Mason City; his two sisters, Bonnie (D.J. Carpenter) Caspers of Rockwell and Janet (Lyle) Winter of Letts, Iowa; his two brothers, Larry (Jeannie) Parcher of Rudd and Ronald Parcher of Rockford. He will also be a cherished memory of numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Steven in death are his grandparents; his sister, Linda O’Rourke; his two brothers, Michael and Nicholas Parcher; his two nieces, Amy O’Rourke and Sarah Jo Parcher; and his brother-in-law, Jack Caspers.
