Chinnery, Jeannette Wetter

ORCHARD, IOWA - Jeannette Wetter Chinnery, 86, of Orchard, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2009) at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage following a brief illness.

Jeannette Marie was born April 11, 1922, in Orchard, the daughter of Walter and Selma (Johnson) Wetter. She married Clayton Albert Chinnery on Oct. 25, 1941, in Charles City. Clayton joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and they spent some time in California where Clayton was stationed at Camp Roberts.

After returning home, they farmed for several years, eventually owning and operating their own feed business, AFS Distributors, in Orchard.

Jeannette loved being outdoors, whether it was farming or riding horseback. She loved playing basketball and softball. In later years, she rode her favorite horse at horse shows and won many ribbons and trophies. She rode a horse until she was 50 years old.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Orchard, with Pastor Jan Tjaden officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City at a later date. There will be a time for lunch and fellowship following services at the church.

Survivors include her children, Linda (Earl) Stoner of Strawberry Point, and Elaine (Phillip) Scott of Boscobel, Wis.; four grandchildren, Sgt. Kelly (Youngun) Gorman of Manhattan, Kan., Megan Stoner (special friend, Seth Crosby) of St. Paul, Minn., Julie Scott of Austin, Texas, and Tricia Scott (special friend, Jacob Gammon) of Madison, Wis.; four great-grandsons, Tyree Edge, Kevin Lee, Killian Gorman, and Keenan Gorman; and a great-granddaughter, Susan Lee.

She is also survived by two brothers, Marvin (Pat) Wetter of Floyd, Russell Wetter of Rudd; a sister, Rosetta (Keith) Shelledy of Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Selma Wetter; her husband, Clayton Chinnery; and one granddaughter, Jacqueline Scott Edge.

Arrangements are by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 641-732-3706.
