Katie Apel, 96, of 20 North Seminary, died on Tuesday at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Rudd Eden Presbyterian Church, with Rev. G. Smith officiating. Burial was in the Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Katie was born on September 22, 1897 in Winona, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Brandau) Kling. She married Elmer Apel on February 19, 1919 in Rudd.

Katie grew up in the Rudd area. She and her husband farmed northeast of Nora Springs until retiring in 1947 when they moved into Nora Springs. She moved into the Nora Springs Care Center in January, 1993. She enjoyed gardening, carft work, and playing the piano.

Survivors include one daughter, Lois Sellon and her husband Eugene, Mason City; one sister, Luella Burnett, Rudd; two grandchildren, Tom Sellon, Janesville, and Terri Patchen, Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Herman Kling, and Alvin Kling; and one grandson, Steven Sellon.
