Elaine Schreier, 80, of Charles City, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Elaine Schreier will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastors Dennis Niezwaag and David Werges will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Elaine Jean Soli Schreier was born October 22, 1930, at Vang, N.D. the third child of George and Ruth (Kjennrude) Soli. She graduated as valedictorian from Milton High School, Milton N.D. in 1948. She moved to Chicago in July of that same year and began employment as a receptionist with the Standard Oil Company. While living in Chicago she discovered a fondness for baseball and the Chicago Cubs which lasted all of her life.

In 1953 she moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. and worked at an employment agency. While there she met and married Adam Eugene "Gene" Schreier on August 6, 1954. They moved to Des Moines in 1956 settling in Charles City in August of 1957. Her interests included cooking, baking, watching various sports, listening to Country Western music, reading and bird watching. Elaine always looked forward to sharing her life with her family, especially her grandchildren. She really appreciated the laughs, luncheons and good times with many wonderful friends.

Living family members include her husband, Gene Schreier of Charles City; four children, Michael (Victoria) Schreier of Lexington, Ky., Teresa (David) Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Lance Schreier of Charles City and Timothy Schreier of Hoboken, N.J.; two grandchildren, Travis and Ryan Bennett; three brothers, Allan (Marge) Soli of Rapid City, S.D., Charles (Charlotte) Soli of Langdon, N.D. and Gene (Mary Ann) Soli of Milton, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Marietta (Stan) Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Doris McCloud Hanson.
