Geraldine Carma Vierkant

Eugene, Ore. — Geraldine Carma Vierkant, 77, of Eugene, Ore., formerly of Nora Springs, died Saturday (Oct. 29, 2005) at the Good Neighbors Home in Eugene, Ore.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Nora Springs United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye, with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs.

Memorials may be directed to the Nora Springs United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Geraldine Carma Vierkant was born on March 17, 1928, in rural Fairbanks, daughter of Roy and Lillian (Bratchart) Neil. She graduated from Waterloo West High School.

Carma moved to Nora Springs in 1948, and worked at Neil Cafe in Nora Springs for several years and later worked at Liberty Square and the Nora Springs Care Center as a cook.

She was united in marriage to Ben Vierkant on Aug. 11, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Carma was a member of the Nora Springs United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist women’s circles. She was also a longtime member in the local bridge club and volunteered at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Carma had a love for cats, enjoyed cooking and baking, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her three children, Diane Pigg and her husband, David, of Jacksonville, Ill., Deb Vierkant, of Eugene, Ore., and Denise Waggoner and her husband, Roger, of Eugene, Ore.; three grandchildren, Jason Pigg and his wife Aimee, of Ruston, La., Jeff Pigg and his wife, Kristi, of Des Moines, and Megan, of Eugene, Ore.; one great-granddaughter, Elena Pigg, of Ruston, La.; one sister, Carole Murphy, of Hood Rover, Ore.; and one nephew, Rod Murphy and his wife, Kara, of Nampa, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Ben, who passed away on Dec. 24, 2000.
