PERN FRENCH

Pern D. French, 89, of Charles City and formerly of Nashua, died on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, of natural causes. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Little Brown Church in Nashua with fellowship to follow. Iowa Cremation in Cedar Rapids, 1-888-871-3361, is assisting the family.

She was born on October 2, 1921, in New Hampton, Iowa, to Clifford and Emma Wallin Mead. She married Carroll French on July 4, 1941. He passed away on December 7, 1990. Pern and her husband farmed for over 50 years in the Nashua area. Pern was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, many committees at First Congregational Church in Nashua. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, cooking, and doing puzzles.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Glenn) Sheldon of Nashua; six grandchildren: Michael Stewart of Schenectady, N.Y., Ginger Stewart of Tumwater, Wash., Elizabeth (Eugene) Corwin of Greene, Jessica Lee of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Tyann (Chris) Rouw of Cedar Falls and Chad (Amy) Sheldon of San Antonio, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Mead of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

Pern was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Desallier; a son, Dr. Kenneth French; a sister, Alberta Mead; and brothers Harold, Gerald and Lavern Mead.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Iowa Hospice of New Hampton or the charity of your choice.
