CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Ethel K. Zajic, 86, formerly of 96 Cedar Terrace N., Charles City, died Monday, August 29, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City. Officiating will be the Rev. Stanley Hayek.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Fullerton Hage, 401 Blunt, Charles City.
A parish rosary will be held at 5:30 a.m. and a parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m., conducted by Sister Diane Blong of Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.Ethel Kathleen was born the last child of Charles and Rose (Ferzholz) Gorres in Wanda, Minn. She received her education there. At an early age she worked in the family hotel and restaurant business and handled eggs. On February 25, 1952, she was united in marriage to Leo Henry Zajic in Wanda. They made their home in that area until moving to a farm near Nashua in 1966. They raised their children there and following Leo's death in 1996 she moved to Charles City. As a youngster she and her siblings enjoyed playing several instruments and having a "Good Ol' Time!" She personally played the accordion. As the children grew she shared her skills as a cook and baker with them.
Canning was one of her specialties and she would can her garden produce and make pickles and home made sausage. In her later years she enjoyed crocheting, listening to western music, and watching Archie Bunker and Western movies. Ethel was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Michaels Circle.
Ethel's three children survive her, Gary and his wife Sharon Zajic, Marlys Zajic, and Donna and her husband Robert Martin, all of Charles City, and four grandchildren, Scott and Christopher Zajic, and Daniel and Michelle Martin and her special friend Ty Bouillin.
Her husband, parents and sisters and brothers Caroline Brau, Violet Kavanagh, Jerome, Laverne, Lee, Adeline, and Mildred Gorres all preceded Ethel in death.
