Max Ronald was born on March 7, 1934, at Dumont, the son of Francis “Sam” and Althea (Aherns) Santee. He graduated from the Dumont High School with the class of 1952. He served his country in Korea from 1952 until 1955 with the Marine Corps. On Aug. 7, 1960, he was united in marriage to Frances Overturf in Dumont. To this union was born four children. They made their home in the Dumont area then moved for a short time near Greene, and for the last 48 years lived on their current farm. Max was elated that they had a place to call home and raise their family. Soon livestock of sheep, pigs, milk cows and several wild horses they adopted from Montana joined the family. Max was employed in the foundry at White Farm in Charles City until it’s closing when he began working for Wright Tree Service out of Des Moines until his retirement in 1996 when his wife also retired.

In their retirement they loved taking bus trips especially to Oregon. During the summers while the children were growing up they spent time camping. Max bought a john boat that he would gladly row forhis kids on Clear Lake, Twin Ponds and down the Chickasaw River. He didn’t fish but loved watching the kids. Max had a quiet and close relationship with his children and grandchildren, often mentoring them to “Do well in school and head down the right road.” He was independent in his actions and careful that they were the right choice for his family and self. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nashua.

Max is survived by his wife Frances of 51 years. He was everything to her. Along with his daughter Angie and her husband John Marvin, of Charles City; two sons Scott and his wife Nona Santee, of Old Hickory, Tenn.; and Monte and his wife Lisa Santee, of Albert Lea, Minn.; he is survived by seven grandchildren Holly Santee, Logan and Seth Marvin, Nick, Matt, Jessica and Elizabeth Santee, and four great-grandchildren Jarrett Huffman, Dillon, Deacon, and Emma Caspers, and one brother Gene (Becky) Santee, of Jacksonville, N.C.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, his son Eric in 2004, and his daughter-in-law Terri in 2006.
