GREENE, IOWA - Charles E. Truex, 95, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the United Methodist Church in Greene with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene with military honors conducted by Tack-Barnett Post 268 of the American Legion of Greene.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the United Methodist Church, Greene.
Memorials may be directed to the Charles E. Truex Memorial Fund, 110 S. High St., Apt. 5, Greene, IA 50636.

Reid's Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 29, 2011, from 9:00 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Greene.

Charles E. Truex was born August 21, 1915, a son of William Trimble and Vera Pearl (Miller) Truex and died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. He received his education in the public schools graduating from Marble Rock High School in 1935. He later attended Barber School in Cedar Rapids. In his early years he farmed on the family farm.

Charles was inducted into the United States Air Force December 2, 1941.

He was a mechanic and crew chief on B-25 Bombers and flew 34 missions during World War II; and oversaw missile maintenance. Charles retired from the Air Force in 1967, as a Master Sergeant, having earned seven Bronze Stars for his campaigns in Europe. When he returned to Greene he worked for Sonny’s Bar and was a clerk at the state liquor store.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Gertrude Clapham on January 3, 1942, in Wichata Falls, Texas. To this union was blessed one son, Terry.

Charles was a member of the United Methodist Church in Greene. He enjoyed baseball and tinkering with automobile maintenance. Charles was known for having the cleanest car in town. He was devoted to his family and was a really “good Dad”.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Evelyn “Babe” Truex of Greene, one son Terry (Connie Kennedy) Truex of Altoona, one grandson Zack (Danielle) Truex of Denver, Colorado, one Granddaughter Sarah (Brent) Thomas; great-grandchildren: Domonic Truex, Giavonna, Reid Thomas and Nash Thomas; one sister Vada Beguelin of Estacada, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Carl and Glen and sister LaVonne Shultz

Memorials may be directed to the Charles E. Truex Memorial Fund, 110 S. High St. Apt. 5, Greene, Iowa 50636.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene. 641-823-4457.
