CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Glen R. Nelson, 79, of Charles City, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services for Glen Nelson will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City with Military Honors by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5-8 p.m. today and after 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Glen Nelson was born May 15, 1932, in rural Colwell, the son of Dee B. and Mary (Hennings) Nelson. He attended school in Colwell and Charles City. Glen proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954.

In 1958, Glen received his barber license after graduating from barber school in Phoenix, Ariz. On June 22, 1959, he was united in marriage to Patricia Townsend in Bellview, Ill. He was a barber in Charles City for 53 years.

Glen was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, V.F.W., American Legion, Moose Lodge, Isaac Walton League and National Fish and Game Club. His interests included lawn work, flowers, fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Living family members include his wife, Patricia Nelson of Charles City; three children, David (Terresa) Nelson of Marble Rock, Tony Nelson of Charles City and Mary (Garett) Bissen of Charles City; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Watkins of Greene and Delores Fike of Rudd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one great grandson, Tony Ross; and five sisters.
The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.
