Ruth Evelyn Vest

MASON CITY, IOWA — Ruth Evelyn Vest, 80, a resident of the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Ruth Vest Memorial Fund.

Ruth was born April 8, 1924, in Charles City, the daughter of Lloyd and Iva Ruth (Kirshner) Lindsley. She graduated in 1942 from Nashua High School.

Ruth married Gene Merle Vest on May 9, 1946, in Carroll. They owned and operated Farmer's Produce in Madrid for several years and later Frontier Restaurant in Perry for 17 years. They always were "a team." After retirement, Gene and Ruth delivered RVs from coast to coast. She loved sewing, bingo, playing cards, spending time with friends and family.

Ruth is survived by her children, Ramona Cushman and her husband, Dale Wittrock, Corcoran, Minn., Don Vest and his wife, Sherri, Bellevue, Neb., Jodie Lewerke and her husband, Dennis, Mason City, Dean Vest and his wife, Lisa, Linn Creek, Mo., and Dale Vest and his wife, Jean, Adel; daughter- in-law, Janice Vest, Ankeny; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marybelle Larsh and her husband, Bob, Las Vegas, Nev., Alice Lincoln, Charles City, Leah Waddingham, Bismark, N.D., and Lola Saholt and her husband, Bob, Minneapolis, Minn.; brothers, Bob Lindsley, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Daryl Lindsley and his wife, Patty, Ionia, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene, on March 31, 1999; one son, Dennis in 1995; two brothers, Lloyd and Buddy; and two sisters, Edith and Dorothy.
