GLEN R. 'BUTCH' IDSO

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Glen R. "Butch" Idso, 93, of 115 First St. S.W. in Nora Springs died Sunday (August 11, 2002) at the Nora Springs Care Center where he had resided for a little more than four years.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs with the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

The family requests that memorials be given to the First United Methodist Church in Nora Springs in memory of Glen R. Idso.

Glen Richard Idso was born April 22, 1909 in Alden, Iowa the son of Alfred and Edith Mae (Fuller) Idso.

Glen married Inez Ellingson on Feb. 14, 1931 at Stratford, Iowa and they farmed for a short time north of Alden. During this time a daughter, Joan Kock, was born.

They moved to Nora Springs in 1935 where Glen started a meat market. Later he opened a grocery store and a pool hall. In 1949 he built and operated what was called the Idso Packing Co.

In 1956 Glen also started farming until he retired in 1968. He continued to take care of several rental properties during his retirement.

He loved to fish and made many trips to Canada. He also enjoyed hunting and coon hunting was one of his favorites. Glen liked to travel and took many trips. His hobbies were woodworking and in his younger days he did some taxidermy.

Glen is survived by his daughter, Joan Kock, and her husband, Donald, of Nora Springs; one granddaughter, Candace Obrecht and her husband, Jeffrey; two great-grandchildren, Mark and Shawna; and one sister, Bess Daylor, of Daytona Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez; his parents; and two brothers, Ray of Daytona Beach, Fla. and James of Iowa Falls.
