Eddie Eugene Nikolas 1951-2010

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Eddie Eugene Nikolas, 58, passed away on Wednesday (July 21, 2010) from complications of cancer. Mr. Nikolas was born Sept. 20, 1951, in Charles City.

He was a retired lieutenant from the Navy after serving 24 years, with duty stations including the USS Iowa, BB-61, of which he was involved currently with the USS Iowa Veterans Association as association co-web master. He was currently employed with Battelle Inc. as a senior systems analyst where he worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

Eddie loved to be out in the sun, he was a sports enthusiast and was a Minnesota Vikings fan. He also enjoyed model airplanes, his Mustang convertible and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, brother, son and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sheryl Nikolas; a son, Jason Nikolas, and his wife, Kelly, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a daughter, Monica Dodd, and her husband, Jeff, of Virginia Beach, Va., five grandchildren, Michael, Brooke, Jenna, Adam, Ryan and he was looking forward to grandchild No. 6, a boy; his father, Eugene Nikolas. of Osage; sisters, LaWanna McSweeney and her husband Jim, of Wisconsin, and Rhonda Kramer of Minnesota, two brothers, Chester Stephens and his wife, Carolyn, of Texas, and Leonard Stephens and his wife, Louella, of California; sisters-in-law, Debbie Brakel and her husband, Jim, of Phoenix, and Dana Thompson and her husband, Dave, of Osage. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members and good friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 23, in the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Virginia Beach, Va.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1051 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, Va., with interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
