LOREN JAMES HOFLER

NORA SPRINGS - Loren James Hofler, 47, of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (July 24, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hanford Community Church, 12411 Spruce Ave., Mason City, with Pastor Dave Lenhart officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 110 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Loren J. Hofler Memorial Fund.

Loren was born April 25, 1955, in Mason City, the son of Richard Lehman and Darlene Santee. He was later adopted by his father, Richard Hofler. Loren graduated from Rockford High School in 1973 and then entered the United States Navy to serve at the end of the Vietnam War. After his discharge, Loren continued to serve in the Navy Reserves and graduated from North Iowa Area Community College.

He was united in marriage to Susan Pancheri on August 30, 1980, in Albert Lea, Minn. He worked at International in Osage and at Larson Kisner in Rudd as an ag mechanic for several years. Loren also worked with his father in field tiling for McKiness Excavating of Mason City before attending NIACC to study drafting.

In 1992, he started as a draftsman for Curries Manufacturing, and also worked in the customer service department at Curries in Mason City.

Loren was a former member of the Spirit of the Dove Church in Mason City and a current member of Hanford Community Church, rural Mason City. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and working with his back hoe and skid loader. Loren was a dedicated family man whose idea of fun was spending the day with his wife and children.

Loren is survived by his wife, Sue, of Nora Springs; his children, Sarah, Dustin and Andrea, all of Nora Springs; his father, Richard Hofler, of Hamilton, Montana; one sister, Janette Lien and her husband, Todd, of Rockford; two brothers, Tim Hofler and his wife, Kim, of Nora Springs, and Greg Hofler of Tulsa, Okla.; four nieces and nephews, T.J. and Krysta Hofler and Nathan and Megan Lien; one grandchild on the way, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and biological father; his grandparents, and an infant brother.
