William ‘Bill’ Cero
William “Bill” J. Cero, 81, of Charles City, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City with Father Carl Ries officiating. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
William Joseph Cero was born on July 15, 1929, to Joseph and Jesse Cero in Bassett. He was united in marriage to Margaret Mae DeBettegnies on Aug. 3, 1950, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton. William was employed at White Farm, Inc. from 1954 to 1992. During these years he also did independent painting of homes, residental and rural. William was also an avid “coon” hunter and owned several “top line breed” hunting dogs. Following retirement William enjoyed lawn mowing and spending time with his wife, family and his beloved dog “Eddie.” William will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Dad was a man of “few words,” but one of “many thoughts.”
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret “Girlie”; children: Mila (Lyle) Bunston and John (Mary) Cero, both of Humbolt; Diane Bilharz, of Nashua; Lori Cero and James Cero, both of Charles City; grandchildren: Brandon and Abby Bunston, Steven Cero, Katie Davis, Christine (Frank) Valenzuela, Michelle (Paul) Jones, Michael (Tabatha) Caswell, Cody Bilharz, Maggie Hoy, Amy Cero; and 11 great-grandchildren with two on the way.
William was preceeded in death by his parents; siblings: Charlie, Ted, Dewey, Eddie, Mildred, Anna Mae; and his grandson, Jesse William Cero, in 2006.
