MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Darrell Hillman, 85, of 301 N. Main, died Saturday (May 18, 2002) at his residence.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford, Marble Rock. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel and will continue one hour prior to the services Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Funeral services for Darrell Hillman, 85, of 301 N. Main, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford St. in Marble Rock, with Pastor Robert Shreve officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Darrell Hillman was born June 26, 1917, in rural Ulster Township, Floyd County, a son of Willard and Millie (Schrader) Hillman and died Saturday (May 18, 2002) at his residence in Marble Rock.

He received his education in the Marble Rock Public Schools graduating in 1935. On Jan. 20, 1937, he was united in marriage to Reka "Rex" Ahrends at Dumont. Darrell and Rex farmed within four miles of Marble Rock all their married life. He raised livestock for many years.

Darrell purchased the Cities Service Gas Station in Marble Rock in 1960 and operated for several years before closing it. He also trucked tile for the Rockford Brick and Tile Company.

Darrell and Rex moved into their new home in Marble Rock in 1975 when he retired from farming.

Darrell enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair each year. He also enjoyed calling square dances along with Phillip Parcher.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock where he was instrumental in building the new basement for the church.

Living family members include his daughter, Linda and her husband, Nolan Taylor, of Milton, Fla.; one son, Dee Jay and his wife, Kathlene Hillman, of Rock Falls; nine grandchildren, James Hillman, Anthony Nash, Stephanie Lowery, Holly Shindelar, Heidi Rooney, Dana Hillman, Darci Hillman, Michael Klink, and Shelly Klink; three great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Carma Hillman, of Marble Rock; son-in-law, Alvin and his wife, Susan Klink, of Marble Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Feb. 23, 1995; a son, Danny Hillman; daughter, Nancy Klink; daughter-in-law, Ruth Hillman; son-in-law, S. Lee Nash; and granddaughter, Debra Grarup.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Darrell Hillman Memorial Fund in care of the family.
