NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Kenneth Harley Seward 93, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the First United Methodist Church, 202 North Hawkeye, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be held today, June 10, from 5-7 p.m. at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs.
Kenneth Harley Seward was born Feb. 8, 1918, in Greene, the son of Harley Edgar and Iva Sylvia (Tucker) Seward. He graduated from Mason City High School. After high school he started his career in auto body repair. He owned and operated Seward Auto Body in Nora Springs. On April 15, 1939, he was united in marriage to Jane McDermott; to this union two children were born.
Kenneth loved spending time with his family. He had a wonderful talent in auto body repair and loved his job. Kenneth enjoyed dancing with Jane at the Surf Ballroom, polka music, cooking and gardening - especially taking care of his tomatoes and rhubarb! He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Nora Springs.
Kenneth is survived by his son, Richard (Marilyn) Seward, Santee, Calif.; daughter-in-law Pamela Seward, Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Victoria, Richard, T.J., Jamie and Brian Seward; one great-grandchild, Ciara Seward; sister-in-law Nancy Price and brother-in-law Bill Rapelje; along with other relatives and friends.Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane Seward; son John Seward; and sisters Bea Ellis and Edna Hinman.
