CHARLES CITY - Ernest L. Knudsvig, 79, of Charles City, died Saturday (May 4, 2002) at Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 200 N. Grand Ave., Charles City, with the Rev. Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Charles City with military rites.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with a Vigil Scripture Wake service at 7 p.m. at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

CHARLES CITY - Ernest L. Knudsvig, 79, of 201 N. Johnson, Charles City, died Saturday (May 4, 2002) at Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 200 North Grand Avenue, Charles City, with the Rev. Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Charles City with Military Rites.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Vigil Scripture Wake service at 7 p.m. at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City.
Visitation will continue Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.
Ernest was born February 11, 1923, in Ossian in Winneshiek County, the son of Alvin M. and Marie (Larson) Knudsvig. He was baptized April 8, 1923, and confirmed on September 5, 1937. He graduated from Ossian High School, and then went on to Pitzs Beauty School in Waterloo. He entered the Army on January 14, 1943 before transferring to the Air Force where he ended his service on February 16, 1946.
Ernest was united in marriage to Geraldine Bonfig on October 20, 1945, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ossian. He then moved to Charles City with Geraldine in 1948, where Ernest and Geraldine owned a beauty salon for many years, enjoying working together.
In the winter, he would travel to Arizona to spend his winters. He loved to dance, and enjoyed fishing in Freeport, Minn., and on the Mississippi River with friends. He also enjoyed playing all kinds of card games. Ernest was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and a former member of the Elks in Charles City.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine (Bonfig) Knudsvig; two sisters, Linda Kling and her husband, Quinton, of Palos Heights, Ill., Jean Seery and her husband, Frank, of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Alden and his wife, Helen, of Clearfield, Utah, Parnell and his wife, Rose, of Lake Geneva, Wis., Lein and his wife, Leota, of Decorah; and many nieces and nephews.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents.
