ROCKFORD, IOWA - John J. Engels, 75, of 21 Fourth St. S.W., died Saturday (April 27, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Rockford, (641) 756-3311.

ROCKFORD, IOWA - John J. Engels, 75, of 21 Fourth St., S.W., died Saturday (April 27, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 First Ave. N.W., Rockford. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a rosary beginning at 7. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday. Fullerton Funeral Home, 302 West Main St., Rockford, is in charge of arrangements.

ROCKFORD, IOWA - John J. Engels, 75, of Rockford, died Saturday (April 27, 2002) at home.

A funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the church hall, with a wake at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the Mass on Wednesday.

John was born in Plymouth, Iowa, to August and Louise (Taets) Engels on May 23, 1926. He moved to rural Rockford at a young age and attended Rudd Community School.

He was united in marriage to Maxine Kramer on Oct. 29, 1947, at Roseville, Iowa, and to this union, 12 children were born.

John and Maxine built their lives around faith and family and continued to live in the Rockford area until his death.

John was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford and served in many capacities. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifelong NFO member.

John was an implement and seed dealer. He sold Knights of Columbus insurance for a time. He worked in the grain department for the NFO in Corning, Iowa, for many years before focusing his career on sales for Na-Churs Plant Food Company where he attained the level of area supervisor.

John was engaged in farming all his life until his retirement.

John enjoyed reading, praying, playing cards and board games with family members. He loved children and especially delighted in his children and grandchildren's lives and accomplishments. John was never happier than when his house was filled with his family. He looked forward to their visits.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Maxine, and his 11 children and their families, Gerald, Fayette, and children, Shawn, Kendra, Kimberly, Alessandra, Adriana, Julian and Roxanna; Connie Engels-Weigmann and husband, Robert, of Marble Rock, and children, Robert, Jennifer, Julie, Jacque, and Dianne; John Jr. and wife, Deb, of Rockford and children, Jason, Alan, Carson, Serena, Mikayla and Weston, Tom and wife, Corky, of Rockford, and children, Christina, Joseph, Kathy, Anthony, Elizabeth and Nathaniel, Bob and wife, Deb, of Rockford, and children, Angie, Erin, Andrea and Dan, Mary Litterer and husband, Russ, of Rockford, and children, Matt, Jim, Bill and Anne, Jim and wife, Terry, of Rockford and children, Eric, Marc and Gregory, Pat and fiancee, Lori, of Rockford and children, Jessica, Amanda, Virginia, Brenda, Christopher and Maria, Annette Schwantes and husband, Jack, of Rockford, and children Issac, Jackelyn and Isaiah, Patty Engels, of Rockford, and Donna Engels-Jones and husband, Dean, of Rockford and children, Johnathon and Theresa; spouses of grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Emil and wife, Helen, of Rockford; one sister, Madelyn Rottinghaus and husband, Ray, of Nora Springs; and numerous other relatives.

John was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Engels; his parents; four sisters, Mary Crowell, Alberta Huntley, and two infant sisters; one brother, Charlie Engels; granddaughter, Barbara Engels; and great-grandson, Derick Wharton, all of whom he was anxiously awaiting a joyous reunion with.

The family of John Engels acknowledges your kind expressions of sympathy offered to them at the time of their loss.

Visitation was held on Tuesday at the church hall. Visitation will continue one hour before the Mass today at the church.
