LESTER C. KALVIG

IONIA, IOWA - Lester C. Kalvig, 74, of Ionia, passed away Monday evening (April 15, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton as the result of an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Republic Community Church in Ionia with burial in Alpha Cemetery in Alpha.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua, and one hour before services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lester C. Kalvig was born on Feb. 22, 1928, at Charles City, a son of Alfred and Milda (Dahlstrom) Kalvig. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a self-employed machinist as well as having worked at Hydrotile in Nashua and Clay Equipment in Cedar Falls.

He is survived by six children, Sharon (Dale) Thompson, of New Tazewell, Tenn., James (Sally) Kalvig, of Ionia, Denise (Ron) Zoss, of Urbandale, Kimberly (Tom) Sabow, of Edina, Minn., Michelle (Robin) Weiss, of Nashua, Tamara (Frank) Krogh, of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Carla (Reuben) Douglas, of Denver; two sisters, Adala Springmier of New Hampton and Gloria Ihnen of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Leo Kalvig of La Porte City and Melvin Kalvig of Ionia; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Milda (Dahlstrom) Kalvig, and a brother, Milford Kalvig.
