NICHOLAS M. BRUNNER

MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - A funeral Mass for Nicholas M. Brunner, of 403 Iowa St., will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Roseville with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock where there will be a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary service.

Nicholas Mike Brunner was born May 18, 1913, in Union Township, Floyd County, a son of Mike and Anna (Heinz) Brunner and died Sunday (April 7, 2002) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

He received his education in the rural Union Township country schools and as a young man was engaged in farming.

On May 19, 1942, he was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps where he served with the 593rd AAFBU during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 20, 1945.

On June 25, 1946, he was united in marriage to Christina Barbara Schmitt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Roseville. Mr. and Mrs. Brunner first made their home in Marble Rock and in 1950 moved to their farm near Marble Rock where they remained until 1988 when they retired and moved into Marble Rock. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Roseville. As a pastime he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing pinochle and euchre.

Living family members include one daughter, Kathryn and her husband, Jerry Guenther, of Charles City; four sons, Fred and his wife, Judy Brunner, of Ames, Paul and his wife, Debbie Brunner, of Marble Rock, Gene and his wife, Lloydene Brunner, of Rockford, and John and his wife, Jean Brunner, of Marble Rock; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty and her husband, Pete Stanbrough, of Bristow, Merna Teeple of Greene, Marie and her husband, Roger Ackley, of Peoria Ill.; and one brother, Merlyn Brunner, of Marble Rock.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christina, on October 13, 1993; his parents; one sister, Phyllis Craig; and two brothers, Robert and Orville Brunner; and two grandsons, Matthew Brunner and Aaron Guenther.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Nicholas M. Brunner Memorial Fund in care of the family.
