E. DARRELL DEETS

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - E. Darrell Deets, 80, of Nora Springs, died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, at the First United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, with the Rev. Richard Pippert and the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Interment will follow at Park Cemetery in Nora Springs, where military honors will be conducted by the Nora Springs American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 110 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs.

Darrell was born February 14, 1921 in Rice, Minnesota, the son of Benjamin and Anna (Frosch) Deets. The family lived in Rice, Minnesota, Rockwell and Rock Falls, before moving to Nora Springs.

Darrell served in the United States Navy from September of 1942 until October of 1945, during World War II, as a Machinist 1st Class.

He was united in marriage to Margie Callahan on January 17, 1945 in Seattle, Washington. Darrell worked at the Sugar Beet plant in Mason City and helped his wife take care of the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs, but spent most of his life farming near Nora Springs. He retired in 1994.

Darrell will be greatly missed by his son, Darrell "Rusty" Deets and his wife, Sherry, of Bonham, Texas; a daughter, Kim Hugunin and her husband, Clay, of Dickens; two grandchildren, Dawn Partridge and her husband, Keith, of Bonham, Texas, and Brian Deets and his wife, Kim, of Sherman, Texas; three great-grandchildren, T.J. Partridge, of Bonham, Texas and Brian and Justin Deets, of Sherman, Texas; four sisters, Annabelle Christiansen and Audrey Hewitt, both of Nora Springs, Mildred Austin, of Mason City, and Laurine Kressin of Bloomer, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, and seven brothers.
