GARY W. HANSON -- BURIAL AT NORA SPRINGS

MASON CITY, IOWA - Gary W. Hanson, 68, of 408 Second St. N.W. died Wednesday morning (Aug. 22, 2001) at the VA hospital in Des Moines.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Fullerton Family of Funeral Homes, 123 Second St. S.E., with the family members officiating. Inurnment will be at Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs.

A gathering for friends and family will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Gary was born on May 1, 1933 in Forest City one of seven children to Helmer G. and Iva (Fuston) Hanson. He received his education in the Nora Springs and Clear Lake School systems.

He honorably served his country from July 1951 until his discharge in July 1955. He served during the Korean War in the Navy. He lived for a short time in California where he was a professional motorcycle rider.

He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers #234 and was employed by several construction companies as an equipment engineer. With this job he traveled extensively for 25 years.

His home had been in Mason City for most of his working life and he enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and photography. He enjoyed reading western novels and camping.

Those who shared in Gary's life include his four sisters, June and her husband, Donald Johnson, of Clear Lake, Laurel and her husband, Clem O'Rourke, and Sylvia and her husband, Ivan Burkheimer, all of Mason City, and Maxine and her husband, Bill Worsley, of Clear Lake; one surviving brother, Rodney and his wife, Pat Hanson, of Clinton; 13 nieces and nephews, Margaret Stachour, Jessica Loch, Tracy Wiley, Patrick and Scott O'Rourke, Julie Fernandez, Kelly Crane, Erin Fingalsen, Kim Field, Robyn Pint, Joleen and Jody Worsley and Shannon Hanson; and close personal friends James and Susan Curtis, and Darin Todd.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Roger in infancy and Curtis Hanson.
