FLORENCE (MRS. EMIL) SHILENY

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Florence (Mrs. Emil) Shileny, 86, a former resident of 612 Seventh Ave., died Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City. St. Francis Circle will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m. and the vigil Scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service time Saturday.

Florence Elizabeth Sabelka Shileny was born Dec. 17, 1914, at her parent's home northwest of Lawler, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Adank) Sabelka. She received her formal education in the rural school near her home. On June 23, 1936, she and Emil W. Shileny were married at Riley Ridge Catholic Church northwest of Lawler.

Florence was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Francis Circle and the Charles City Senior Citizens. She enjoyed having breakfast at McDonald's or Hardees with family and friends.

Living family members include two daughters and their husbands, Rose and her husband, Mark Frein, of Charles City, and Madonna and her husband, Rollin Whitehurst, of Mason City; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband in 1986, a brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
